BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — A friend who went over to take care of the cats at a Merritt Island home discovered a man and woman who were supposed to be on vacation dead inside, according to deputies.
Investigators said the deaths are a result of a murder-suicide.
WFTV was at the scene Monday when crime scene detectives searched for evidence.
A neighbor told WFTV a few days ago he heard what he thought were fireworks, but now he said he's not so sure that's what they really were.
Deputies said the couple was supposed to be on vacation. When the friend went over to check on the cats he thought he saw something suspicious and when he walked through the home he found the couple dead, deputies said.
Investigators said at least one gun was found in the home.
Details about the victims are not being released until their families are notified.
Deputies won't provide details on what happened but information WFTV learned may provide some clues.
Records show the husband was arrested in 2009 for domestic violence and felony battery in an incident in which neighbors said he fired a gun in the air during an argument inside the home.
Last Friday, neighbors said they heard a series of bangs and the home has been quiet ever since.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
