A possible murder-suicide in rural Weakley County remains under investigation today. Deputies from the Weakley County Sheriff’s Department responded about 2 p.m. Sunday to 755 Woods Road, located between Gleason and McKenzie, after receiving a report of someone allegedly being shot. They arrived to find 42-year-old Devnee Renee Reeder and 35-year-old Matt David Bennett, both of 755 Woods Road, both dead from gunshot wounds, according to a sheriff’s department press release. Investigators believe some sort of domestic dispute led Bennett to shoot Ms. Reeder before he shot himself. Both bodies were sent to the forensic lab in Memphis for autopsy. The investigation into the shooting is continuing today, according to the sheriff’s department. Published in The Messenger 9.6.11
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
