SEGUIN — A Seguin man has been arrested after his wife was found dead from a gunshot wound.
Seguin Police Detective Lt. Jerry Hernandez said the body of Rosa Linda Matthews, 51, was found in a vehicle with a gunshot wound to the face in the 2300 block of FM 464 around 1:45 a.m.
When Guadalupe County Sheriff's deputies and Seguin police officers arrived on the scene, they found Willie James Matthews Jr., 51, in the car with his wife's body.
“Rosa Linda Matthews was subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene by Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Darrell Hunter and an autopsy was ordered,” Hernandez said.
Matthews was the one who reported the incident and he was later detained and and questioned by detectives, Hernandez said.
“Willie Matthews cooperated with police and admitted to shooting his wife with a handgun while they were traveling south on FM 464,” he said. “Matthews also admitted that he threw the gun into a field west of the scene."
Matthews was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, tampering with evidence and manslaughter.
He was arrested and transported to Guadalupe County Jail and is being held on three $100,000 bonds.
Manslaughter is a second degree felony and can be punishable by 2-20 years in prison and a fine up to $10,000 if Matthews is found guilty.
Tampering with evidence and unlawful possession of a firearm are third degree felonies, and each could be punishable by two to 10 years in prison and a fine up to $10,000.
The case is still under investigation.
