LANSING -- A 50-year-old Lansing man is dead after he allegedly pointed a gun at police and an officer shot him, MLive Lansing media affiliate WLNS reports.
Lansing police responded to a domestic violence call in the 1200 block of South Holmes Street around 4:10 p.m. Tuesday. Officers found the man threatening his wife with a long gun, WLNS' Chris Casquejo reports.
As officers approached, the man turned the gun on police, according to authorities. That's when an officer shot and killed the man.
"The officer felt his life was in danger," Lansing police Lt. Noel Garcia told WLNS.
The officer has been placed on administrative leave, as is normal protocol when police are involved in a shooting. The officer is a 13-year veteran of the Lansing Police Department.
Michigan State Police are handling the investigation, as is standard operating procedure in police-involved shootings.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
