KNOXVILLE — A man charged in the shooting death of his girlfriend was arraigned Wednesday in Knox County Criminal Court.
Randolph Shawn Sims, 34, faces charges of second-degree murder and employing a firearm in the commission of a dangerous felony in connection with the February shooting death of his girlfriend, Adrianne Watson.
Criminal Court Judge Steve Sword set an April 2012 trial date at Wednesday's arraignment.
Warrants state that Sims fired a shotgun through the door of his Dayton Street apartment as Watson was walking inside. Watson was struck in the stomach and later died.
A witness who ran to the apartment after hearing gunfire told police Sims was on the floor next to his girlfriend, insisting the shooting was an accident.

We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
