Charges were upgraded to murder Wednesday against a man accused of shooting two women after one of the victims, his girlfriend, died Tuesday night, authorities said.

Tonnisha Johnson, 28, of 171 Whittier Ave., Hazel Crest, died at 8:33 p.m. at Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. It said an autopsy Wednesday found that Johnson died of multiple organ failure from multiple gunshot wounds.

Johnson’s boyfriend, Terrell Randall, was apprehended by Lansing police Aug. 26 during a manhunt that followed the shootings.

He was initially charged with attempted first-degree murder and aggravated battery fin Johnson’s shooting, but the charges were upgraded to first-degree murder on Wednesday afternoon, Cook County state’s attorney’s office spokesman Andy Conklin said.

Randall, 32, is also charged with aggravated battery with a firearm for allegedly shooting his ex-girlfriend in Markham.

Johnson was shot three times about 1:30 a.m. Aug. 26 outside the Terrace Motel, 15353 Cicero Ave., Oak Forest, Police Chief Greg Anderson said.

He said she and Randall were staying at the motel together, and Johnson identified Randall as the shooter.

About three hours later, Randall shot his former girlfriend in Markham and she also identified Randall as the person who shot her, according to authorities.
