An investigation is continuing into the shooting death of a Sun Lakes man last week after prosecutors declined to file a homicide charge against his girlfriend, who was arrested in the case.
The victim, Richard Gore, 46, was found with a gunshot wound in his head around 2 a.m. March 1 at his home in the 26000 block of S. New Town Drive, said Maricopa County Sheriffs Office Spokesman Sgt. Jesse Spurgin.
Though it was initially unclear if the death was a suicide or homicide, sheriff's homicide detectives two days later arrested Dana Keller, on suspicion of 2nd degree murder, Spurgin said.
Keller was released from custody Tuesday after the County Attorney's Office declined to file charges pending further evidence, Spurgin said.
Maricopa County Attorney Public Relations Officer Jerry Cobb said prosecutors needed answers to additional questions before deciding whether to charge Keller.
Sheriff's detectives expect to resubmit charges to the County Attorney's Office once their investigation is complete, Spurgin said.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
