A Wonder Lake man found guilty of involuntary manslaughter and sexual abuse in the death of his girlfriend has been sentenced to 23 years in prison.
The Northwest Herald reports that 41-year-old Thomas Brown was sentenced Friday. Brown originally was charged with murder.
Prosecutors say Brown got into an argument with 33-year-old Vitriza Wedward in June 2009. The next morning Brown told police he found Wedward unresponsive.
Brown's public defender said Brown meets regularly with a jail chaplain and recovery group. He could have been sentenced to up to 35 years in prison.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
