Nashville, Tenn. -- Metro Police say a man shot his girlfriend and then tried to kill himself. The shooter was rushed to Vanderbilt Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Sherica Gray, 22, reportedly died at the scene. Gray's family says this is especially shocking because the two had a healthy relationship.
"It's just like a dream to us," says Chris Gray, Gray's aunt. "What happened to her and him. He was a great son. We don't know what happened to her and him. What led up to this?"
The shooting happened off of Tanglewood Court at the Whispering Oaks apartment complex in South Nashville just after 10:00 Saturday night. Investigators say Boris Arapovic, 20, pulled the trigger.
Investigators remained on scene for hours piecing together just what happened, but they believe what started as an argument turned deadly. Witnesses sat they heard the couple arguing in a breezeway then the gunshots.
As investigators continue to piece together what happened, a family finds strength to stay together.
"Lord, have mercy on everybody," says Sherri Gray, Gray's mother. "I have no hate in my heart."
The family says they haven't broken the news to Gray's 6-year old son. They say that will be the hardest part, because the boy has lost his mother and possibly a man he considered a father.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
