HOUMA, La. (AP) - A 42-year-old Raceland woman found dead in a water-filled ditch has been identified, and her on-again, off-again boyfriend confessed to shooting her and dumping the body after an argument.
The Courier says Darrel Ansardi, of Schriever, was booked Monday with the second-degree murder of Sherry Gautreaux, whose body was found Monday in the remote, wooded area near the Terrebonne-Lafourche line.
Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Capt. Dawn Foret says Ansardi, a 58-year-old truck driver, told deputies Monday that he shot Gautreaux in his trailer with a rifle during an argument. It's unclear when Gautreaux was killed. Foret says her body had been left in the ditch for at least a week.
Ansardi is being held at the parish jail. Bond has not been set.
Foret says Ansardi and Gautreaux have a history of domestic violence.
