Lima, OH: Ohio doc. guilty in wife's carbon monoxide death

5:46 PM Wednesday, March 16, 2011
LIMA, Ohio — A jury in Ohio has convicted a doctor in the death of his wife who died from carbon monoxide poisoning.
Attorneys for the anesthesiologist in the northwest Ohio town of Lima had blamed a leaking water heater in the woman's death. But prosecutors contended the doctor killed her because their marriage had been failing.
Prosecutors say Dr. Mark Wangler didn't want a divorce because it would have crippled him financially and hurt his status at his church.
His wife was found dead in their home in 2006.
The Lima News reports that jurors took about nine hours before convicting him Wednesday.
An Allen County judge then sentenced Wangler to life in prison with parole eligibility after 25 years.

The district attorney should never have charged him. It was a witch hunt.
