ASTORIA, Ore. -- The fiancé of a 42-year-old Astoria woman was arrested for manslaughter after the woman died from injuries at a Portland hospital Sunday.
Around noon Sunday Astoria police found Evelyn M. Decker unresponsive at a home in the Emerald Heights neighborhood.
She was taken to Columbia Memorial then transferred to Legacy Emmanuel Hospital in Portland. Decker later died from her injuries.
Sunday afternoon, police arrested 39-year-old Christopher Scott Fitzhugh for assault. Pending news of Decker's death, the charge was upgraded to manslaughter.
Fitzhugh was taken to the Clatsop County Jail on $250,000 bail. The district attorney’s office said they believed it was domestic violence.

(NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
