A man shot his pregnant girlfriend before killing himself early Friday as police converged on him at a house northwest of downtown, officers said.
James Sada, 18, shot himself in the head in the 1500 block of West Craig Place just after 1 a.m., according to the Bexar County medical examiner's office.
His girlfriend, Sunni Danielle Corona, 18, was shot in the chest and was in stable condition at University Hospital.
She told police she was three to four months pregnant, but information about the unborn child was unavailable.
Police found Corona at a home in the 600 block of Donaldson Avenue. Covered in blood and screaming, she was locked in a bedroom with a gunshot wound to her upper chest, asking aloud whether she was going to die, a police report said.
She told officers that Sada turned his small handgun on her after the couple got into an argument about Sada's drug use.
After wrestling on the bed, Corona dared her boyfriend to shoot her, prompting him to point the weapon at her, pull the trigger and then leave the house on foot.
Police tracked Sada to a house on West Craig Place after he called a witness' cell phone and spoke to officers for several minutes, the report states.
When they arrived, they found Sada outside the house with a gun pointed toward his head.
Police Chief William McManus said officers were trying to persuade him to put down his weapon when he shot himself.

We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
