LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — A Little Rock woman has been convicted of killing her boyfriend by running him down with her sport utility vehicle.
Thirty-two-year-old Jakita Sealine Murphy was convicted Friday of first-degree murder and sentenced to 37-years in prison for the Independence Day 2009 death of 38-year-old Bobby Poindexter.
Prosecutors said Murphy intentionally hit Poindexter after the two argued. Murphy testified that she hit Poindexter accidentally while reaching for her cell phone.
A Pulaski County jury deliberated four hours before finding Murphy guilty. The jury deliberated another 90 minutes before recommending the 37-year sentence that was imposed by Circuit Judge Marion Humphrey.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
