Stroudsburg, PA: Blakeslee man convicted of murder

STROUDSBURG – A jury found Philip Vonville guilty of third degree murder in the stabbing death of a Yonkers NY man, last fall. Vonville faces 20 to 40 years in prison.

Vonville, 30, of Blakeslee, was accused of stabbing Michael Hernandez, 19, of Yonkers, last September 17.

Vonville, who reportedly had broken off a relationship with a girlfriend, showed up at her home and found Hernandez there. In an emotional rage, Vonville stabbed Hernandez, then stabbed and slashed himself in an apparent suicide attempt.

Prosecutors initially charged Vonville with first degree murder, contending the killing of Hernandez was a deliberate act. The jury apparently accepted defense contentions that at the time of the crime, Vonville was under extreme emotional distress.
