NEW ORLEANS -- An estranged husband shot and killed his wife Sunday night before turning the gun on himself, according to police.
The shooting happened just after 6 p.m. in the 2400 block of Independence Street.
NOPD spokeswoman Shereese Harper said the man, 37, shot his wife, 34, in the head before shooting himself in the head. The wife was pronounced dead on the scene, while the man was transported to the hospital where he is in critical condition.
Harper said a revolver was found on the ground next to the man.
The NOPD has yet to release the identity of the victims.
