A husband and wife are dead in a murder-suicide in Louisburg, Kan., that happened minutes after a baby sitter was summoned Wednesday morning to take children from the home, police said.

A text message sent to the baby sitter said, “Come and get the kids now,” said Louisburg Police Chief Ron Anderson. The sender added, “I don’t want them to see what is going on.”

As the baby sitter took the preschool children from the residence, two shots rang out about 7:30 a.m., Anderson said.

Anderson said police have ruled the incident a murder-suicide, and they identified the couple as Danielle Lomax, 26, and Timothy Lomax, 27.

Danielle Lomax had filed for a divorce, but police had never been called to the home for physical violence, Anderson said. On June 3, police responded there briefly regarding a verbal argument over who would be with the children that day, Anderson said.

When police arrived Wednesday, they evacuated nearby homes before the Miami County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team went into the home and found the two people dead.
