HUNTSVILLE, AL -- A woman is dead after officials say her husband shot and killed her Wednesday night.
Shortly before 11 p.m., Arthur Jeffries called 911 and said he had gotten into a fight with his wife, 56-year-old Mary Jeffries, and had shot her.
Madison County Sheriff Investigator Brent Patterson said when authorities arrived at the couple's home at 5788 Dan Tibbs Road, they found Mary Jeffries dead at the scene with a single gunshot wound.
Jeffries, 69, was arrested and charged with murder, authorities said. His bond has been set at $50,000.
Patterson said alcohol was a factor in Wednesday's shooting and there was a history of domestic violence at the home. According to court records, Arthur Jeffries was arrested in 2008 on a domestic violence charge.

We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
