(AP) — CORVALLIS, Ore. - A Corvallis man charged with killing a woman has pleaded no contest to assaulting and harassing his ex-wife.

Prosecutors say 64-year-old David McCaffery repeatedly punched his ex-wife one day last summer. The woman went to live with 78-year-old Yvonne Perry, and Perry was found dead less than two weeks later.

The murder trial is scheduled to begin Nov. 29. A sentencing hearing for the charges McCaffery pleaded to Tuesday will not take place until after that trial.

I just wanted to clarify on your posting-as the facts are incorrect. Mr. McCaffery plead no contest to punching his wife once; over an argument about a baked potato. His wife then went to live with her sister. When David was arrested on assault he thought it was Yvonne who turned him in so he blungeoned her to death with a hammer. She was not the one who notified the police but David assumed and an innocent and precious soul is dead.

How do I know the facts about this case? I was a juror on the trial that convicted him of murder. This will be a weight that I will have to bear for years to come.
