A 33-year-old Monona man has admitted to fatally shooting his girlfriend twice in the head Saturday, authorities said.
In a criminal complaint, Christopher Thompson told deputies from the Allamakee County Sheriff's Office he got into a verbal and physical fight with Angela Gabel, 40, at their home at 292 Watson Road in Linton township. Gabel went outside and got into her car. Thompson followed and they continued to argue.
Thompson said he then went into the house, grabbed a .22-caliber rifle, walked onto the deck and fired a shot that hit Gabel in the head. Thompson said he found Gabel still alive in the car. Thompson said in the criminal complaint he fired a second shot into Gabel's head to "put the victim out of her misery so that she didn't suffer."
He went inside, put away the gun and called 911 at about 11:32 p.m. When deputies arrived, Thompson was on the deck holding his 8-month-old son. He went back inside and, after a brief standoff, surrendered.
Thompson is charged with first-degree murder. He is being held without bond in the Clayton County Jail.

We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?

RIP Angela. Know that your classmates, FHS Class of 88, are doing everything we can to raise money to help bring your baby Tacoma home to Wisconsin where he belongs.
