Woman Found Dead At Apartment Complex

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. -- Police said a man accused of fatally shooting a Clarksville woman Tuesday morning has killed himself in Indiana.

Around 2:45 a.m., police responded to a domestic dispute at a Clarksville apartment complex on Kingsbury Drive. Officers said they found Kendra Renee Stanmore, 19, dead in front of an apartment.

Witnesses told police they saw a man running away from the scene with a gun and bloody clothes. Police later identified 23-year-old Chauncey Dickerson as a suspect.

After the shooting, Dickerson fled from Clarksville in a Pontiac, but broke down in Kentucky after a flat tire.

Police said Dickerson then hijacked a driver and made the driver take him to Indiana. Authorities stopped the car because it was driving recklessly in Cedar Lake, Ind.

Dickerson was crouched down in backseat, and as police officer approached the vehicle, they heard a gunshot. Police later found that Dickerson had fatally shot himself.

Dickerson and Stanmore have a 2-year-old child. That child was in the area at the time of Stanmore's shooting, but police said the child is safe.

Police said Stanmore had a probation violation in March and some burglary and theft charges from the last four years.
