ALBANY, GA (WALB) – Deadly domestic violence in Colquitt County, an elementary school Instructional provider shot and killed two children, then shot himself to death.
His wife, a Colquitt County Sheriff's Deputy managed to escape, injured, but alive, and now investigators will look to her for answers about what happened. It's a tragedy that's left the community in shock and morning over the loss of two boys many describe as great and a man who school officials say would go out of the way to help anyone. It's left many shaking their heads.
The horrific crime inside this Cool Breeze Drive home stunned everyone from neighbors to the Sheriff.
"There are no words," said Colquitt County Sheriff Al Whittington.
An argument between Kaije McDougald and his wife Angela quickly escalated from a fight to the most violent form of domestic violence.
"She got away from him, escaped from the house ran to a neighbor. In the meantime the husband took the lives of the two children and himself," said Whittington.
Now black bows mark the front of two schools where the couple worked and the kids attended classes.
"As an educator this is probably the toughest day that I've had when you lose a student, sometimes words can't describe how you feel," said Dr. William Cason, Principal, C.A. Gray Junior High School.
At C.A. Gray Junior High counselors were on hand and students wrote messages to the lone survivor their School Resource Officer Angela McDougald, the mother of 15 year old Quinton who just yesterday worked outside with this class, his class on the bench.
"Very, active, very active, he focused on his academics," said Cason.
The flag was at half staff at J.R. Stringfellow Elementary where Quinton's brother Bakari was a third grade student.
"He was just a sweet young man that everyone cared a lot about," said Darlene Reynolds, Principal at J.R. Stringfellow Elementary.
His father, Kaije McDougald, worked at the school as an Instructional professional, providing help for students, especially in Math.
"He was a very dedicated person not only to the students and the school and all the activities we had going on, but the students loved him. He just had a knack about him of helping them to learn," said Reynolds.
Which is why many are struggling to understand how this could happen.
"Like I said no ones immune, with it being even a deputy Sheriff," said Whittington.
In Colquitt County its raised awareness just how quickly domestic violence and affect an entire community. Investigators say all three were shot with a handgun. The bodies are at the state crime lab for autopsy.
