GALVESTON, Texas -- A 47-year old Galveston ex-convict pled guility to murder this morning in the 212th State District Court in Galveston. Judge Susan Criss sentenced Anthony Wayne Earls to 25 years in prison for the violent stabbing death of Sherry Denice Williams, 47, his common-law wife.
Galveston Police were sent to 3414 Avenue N-1/2 after Williams was found stabbed to death inside her apartment in September, 2009 by a concerned friend who went to check on her.
Based on witness information, and previous police reports, Homicide Investigators Fred Paige and Rick McCullor developed information leading to Earls arrest. It appeared the dead woman was a victim of family violence, investigators said. Family Violence Investigator Christlyn Palmer said Williams had filed an emergency protective order against Earls.
Homicide Lt. D.J. Alvarez said at the time nvestigators continued locating, and interviewing witnesses, and based on the evidence gathered, Justice of the Peace Jim Schweitzer issued a warrant charging the ex-convict with Murder.
Galveston Police, Galveston County Precinct 2 Constable. Galveston County District Attorney's Office, and the Galveston County Medical Examiners Office worked jointly to bring about the arrest of Earls. He has been held in the Galveston County Jail without bond since his arrest.
Earls has been known to local police since the early 1990's. Known as "Sweet-Meat" on the streets of Galveston, Earls has been convicted more than once on assault charges, including assault with a deadly weapon, family violence assaults, and assaults causing bodily injury. He has previous convicttions for drug possession in a drug free zone, terroristic threats and has served time in the Texas prison system for violent offenses.

A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
