Lewisburg, WV: Police fatally shoot armed man in Lewisburg

LEWISBURG, W.Va. -- West Virginia State Police are investigating the fatal police shooting of an armed man outside Lewisburg.

State police Sgt. Michael Baylous told media outlets at a Tuesday news conference that officers shot 44-year-old Jimmy L. Hamlin Jr. of Kathleen, Ga., after he threatened them with a rifle.
The shooting occurred Monday afternoon along U.S. 219.
Lewisburg officers stopped Hamlin's vehicle after dispatchers reported that he was armed and had been involved in a domestic dispute.
Baylous says Hamlin didn't comply with the officers' directives. Officers from other departments then responded to the scene.
Lewisburg Police Chief Tim Stover says Hamlin pointed the gun at himself several times before he made a threatening gesture to the officers.
Officers shot Hamlin multiple times. He was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
