A man and a woman were found dead outside their Seneca home today in
what authorities believe was a murder suicide, said Oconee County
Coroner Karl E. Addis.
Gwendolyn D. Hiott,
58, and James Wesley Foxx, 50, were found by people going past the home
at 220 Steve Nix Road, Addis said. Someone called 911 and deputies who
responded found the couple dead on the ground, he said.
Hiott
apparently died of a gunshot wound to the chest, Addis said, and Foxx
appears to have died from a gunshot wound to the head. A handgun was
found near the body of Foxx, he said.
The
unmarried couple were in a relationship and lived at the home where
they were found, Addis said. The preliminary investigation indicates
murder-suicide, believed to have happened a little past 1 p.m., he said.
Autopsies will be performed Sunday to help confirm the cause and manner of the deaths, he said.
