Brandon, FL: Deputies suspect murder-suicide, say Brandon man shot girlfriend, then himself

BRANDON — The bodies were found several days later in the cottage by the pool.
Troy Shannon 49, had lived in the detached apartment with his girlfriend, Sherrie Ann Boyd, 44, for a month.

Like him, she had done time for cocaine. He had a history of domestic violence and a trail of injunctions. He also had threatened suicide before.

Deputies say, this week, Shannon fatally shot himself and his girlfriend.

Shannon's parents discovered the pair at about 7 p.m. Thursday. Deputies believe they died either Monday or Tuesday.

Investigators found a revolver at the scene.

On Friday, crime tape blocked the front entrance of the small house the pair shared behind the larger home at 506 Coulter Road, where Shannon's parents live.
His family declined to comment Friday.

On his Facebook page, Shannon writes of his interest in drumming. He says he graduated from Brandon High School in 1981. He lists himself as engaged to Boyd.

He has a 23-year-old son.

Shannon has been arrested six times in Hillsborough. In 2009, authorities charged him with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, but the charge was later dropped, records show.
He spent about six months in prison in 2005 for robbery.

According to county records, Shannon has a history of alleged domestic violence dating back to 1996. Two Hillsborough women have asked for injunctions, including a woman he married in 1999.

He has been married to at least three women since the mid-90s. All ended in divorce.
