A 24-year-old Minden woman who is
accused of stabbing her boyfriend then
blaming it on an alleged intruder,
maintained her innocence this morning.

Kimethia Coleman, through her attorney,
pleaded not guilty to a charge second-
degree murder for killing 29-year-old
Brian Spinks, a sergeant in the U.S. Air
Force, in the early morning hours of Jan.
29, according to Caddo Parish district
attorney’s office. She is set to return to
court May 3 for arguments and hearing.

She is free on a $200,000 bond. She was
released Jan. 19 after a court hearing to
set the bond.

Police responding to a call at an apartment
in the 100 block of Quail Creek Road found
the airman dead from multiple stab
wounds and a slashed throat. Coleman
initially told officers that an unknown black
man wearing dreadlocks followed her
home after a night out, entered the
apartment and killed Spinks, police said.

Coleman originally was charged with
manslaughter based on her account of
what happened, but police upgraded the
charge to second-degree murder after
further investigation. Investigators say
Coleman and Spinks were romantically
involved, and that she stabbed him during
a domestic dispute.

Coleman faces life in prison if convicted as
charged.
