Pineville, Mo. —
McDonald County deputies are investigating their second homicide in as many weeks.
Early Thursday morning, officials responded to a 911 call in the rural Powell area of a man who’d suffered an apparent heart attack.
Upon arrival, emergency personnel found Gary Young, 58, fatally stabbed in the abdomen. Young’s girlfriend, 52-year-old Dawn C. Reynolds, was taken into custody and charged with second-degree murder. A $50,000 cash only bond was set.
“Mr. Young and Ms. Reynolds were the only ones in the house,” wrote McDonald County Deputy Mike Hall in a probable cause affidavit. “Ms. Reynolds stated she did not kill him, but there was blood on her and the weapon was lying on the table to the side of the victim.”
Hall’s report did not state what that weapon was.
Second-degree murder is classified as a Class A felony, meaning Reynolds could face up to 30 years or life in prison if a conviction is reached.
The case has been referred to the public defender’s office. A court date has not been set, according to electronic court documents filed on Case.Net.
The homicide is the county’s second in two weeks. On Feb. 20, the body of Jack McCain, 67, of Rogers, Ark., was found lying beside Gobbler’s Knob Road. McCain died of gunshot wounds.
