A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.)
When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
OGDEN, Utah (AP) — Ogden authorities have identified a man found dead in a home after a police shootout as 35-year-old Aaron Matthew Collier.
Weber County Attorney Dee Smith would not say if Collier died of a gunshot wound, and if so, whether he was shot by police or shot himself. Smith says he is awaiting results of an official autopsy report.
Police responded to the home early Sunday after a woman called in a domestic violence report. Investigators say officers exchanged fire with a suspect, and when negotiations with a SWAT team ended, officers entered the home and found the suspect dead.
The Salt Lake Tribune reported Tuesday that Collier pleaded guilty in 1998 to misdemeanor cohabitant abuse and was accused of domestic violence in a 2009 petition for a protective order.
