An Arlington man remained in jail Monday, accused of fatally shooting his wife.
Police say Jack Daniel Watson, 60, phoned his mother some time after Saturday's slaying of Sharon Lee Watson, telling her that he had killed his wife and that he planned to commit suicide.
His mother notified police, who went to the couple's home in the 400 block of Roberts Circle in east Arlington and discovered Sharon Watson's body.
Sharon Watson, 56, had died from multiple gunshot wounds of the head, the Tarrant County Medical Examiner ruled.
Officers were able to contact Jack Watson and convince him to turn himself into police. He surrendered to police at about 7 p.m. in a hotel parking lot near Texas 360 and Abram Street.
He faces a murder charge. Bail is set at $100,000.
Tiara Richard, a police spokeswoman, said there had been no previous domestic-related calls to the residence over at least the last couple of years.
"At this point, the motive is not obvious or apparent," she said.
Tarrant County records show that Jack Watson had filed for divorce from his wife in March 2001, stating that the couple had ceased living together that month after almost 26 years of marriage. He sought the divorce on that the grounds that the marriage had become insupportable because of discord or conflict of personalities.
The petition, however, was dismissed in November 2001 for want of prosecution, records show.
