MAUMELLE, Ark. (KTHV) - Maumelle police are investigating an apparent murder-suicide of a local couple.
Shortly after 3 a.m. Tuesday, Maumelle Police responded to an alarm call on Bouriese Circle, located near the Country Club of Arkansas.
Lt. Jim Hansard with The Maumelle Police Department says officers responded within three minutes of the initial call.
"[We] checked the entire perimeter of the house - didn't see any windows broken or any kicked in doors, and knocked and rang the doorbell repeatedly [but] did not get anyone to come to the residence," Hansard said. "They went around the back of the residence and checked, [it was the] same thing found, everything secure. Knocked on the back door, could not get anyone to come to the door."
The officers then went back to normal patrol duties.
At 5:31 a.m., a 911 call returned them to the same residence, this time with information that someone had been shot.
Officers found Dexter, 42, and Sonia Green, 41, in the master bedroom, both with multiple gunshot wounds.
The two died from an apparent murder-suicide, according to Hansard. Police think Dexter shot and killed Sonia, and then shot himself.
"[We learned] there had been past domestic issues at the house and that divorce proceedings were ongoing."
The most recent reported disturbance occurred this past June.
Police say Dexter Green did not currently live in the home and they found a car that he drove to the house parked nearby.
The couple's three children were in the home overnight, but Hansard says they knew nothing was wrong until they woke up.
"Actually, a juvenile in the home had found the people that were shot. Unfortunately, that is how we got the call. [The children] had fled the residence even prior to us getting there."
Police are still trying to figure out when the shooting happened and when Dexter Green entered the home.
The couple's children are now staying with a relative.
