SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. -- The investigative report on a Heathrow man who killed his wife and children before shooting himself shows a family troubled by debt, gambling and infidelity.
J.D. and Cynthia Wood and their two children -- Aubrey, 12, and Dillon, 10 – were found dead Monday inside their home by a cleaning service employee in an apparent murder-suicide in June.
The Seminole County Sheriff's Office declared the case a triple homicide and suicide.
The report said the Woods were under financial stress and were involved in a Chapter 13 bankruptcy. It also said J.D. Wood was addicted to gambling and had lost money because of that addiction and had also seen a recent loss in his Lowe's stock. Interviews with family and friends indicated that Wood was depressed and possibly suicidal because of his financial situation.
The report also said interviews with friends and family the Woods indicated that both J.D. and Cynthia Wood had at one point had an open marriage and had extramarital affairs in the past. It also said J.D. Wood may have found out that his wife was having an affair and was "distraught over the possibility of losing his family." Wood was recording his wife's phone conversations, the report said.
