UPPER DEERFIELD TWP. — A Mallard Lane man died Thursday after apparently trying to shoot his girlfriend through his bedroom door, then shooting himself, according to state police.
John Darpino, 20, was found with a single gunshot to the head. He was taken to the South Jersey Healthcare-Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
The girl, an 18-year-old Vineland resident, suffered a superficial gunshot wound to the arm.
Police said the gun was found in Darpino’s room.
Authorities received a call for a medical assist at 9:25 p.m. from the victim’s sister, who said her brother was locked in his bedroom and had a gun. She said she had heard a gunshot.
Police found a bullet hole in his bedroom door, which investigators believe was the shot directed at his girlfriend.
The investigation is ongoing.
