NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas — A Texas Rangers investigation has begun after police in New Braunfels allegedly shot to death a man suspected of killing his girlfriend.
New Braunfels police Lt. Michael Penshorn says 30-year-old Jamie Almaguer "intended to have a shootout with law enforcement" after authorities discovered the body of his girlfriend, 25-year-old Jennifer Trader, in her San Antonio apartment Tuesday night.
New Braunfels police became involved after Almaguer told a relative he shot someone in San Antonio.
Penshorn says negotiators spoke with Almaguer on the phone several times before seeing him walking near I-35 in New Braunfels. Police say Almaguer ran into traffic and displayed a weapon.
The three officers who allegedly fired several rounds at Almaguer are on administrative duty.
