LAKE STEVENS, Wash. - A police officer responding to a domestic violence call shot and killed a man at Lake Stevens.
The Snohomish County Multiple Agency Response Team is investigating the Sunday night shooting at a residence in the 10400 block of 25th Street SE.
Police say the man killed by police apparently was carrying two guns.
Police said Monday that one weapon was found on the man and the other nearby.
It happened just before 8 p.m. in the Pasadera subdivision, about one mile south of Lake Stevens, said Sergeant Robert Goetz with the Snohomish Multi-Agency Response Team, or SMART.
The door to the home, which is on the 2500 block of 103th Ave SE, appeared to be kicked in, witnesses told KING 5. Both Snohomish County Sheriff's deputies and nearby police officers responded to the scene. While the area is considered unincorporated Snohomish County, Lake Stevens officers got there first. At least one officer entered the house, Goetz said, but it was unclear as of late Sunday whether the male suspect was shot inside or outside the home.
The officer involved is a 23-year old man with nearly 3 years of experience at the Lake Stevens Police Department, said Goetz, who expects the officer will be put on paid administrative leave pending the SMART investigation.
Names of the officer and the deceased were not immediately released.
SMART comprises detectives from different agencies throughout the county who are called on to perform independent investigations on officer-involved shootings.
