A Youngstown woman was found guilty Friday of murdering her husband nearly two years ago.
A jury found Monique Williams did not shoot her husband, Julius, out of self-defense as she had originally claimed.
After a four-day trial, the jury, instead, ruled that Williams committed murder in April of 2008.
The victim's family also said they are very pleased with Friday's ruling.
"We knew that she was guilty," said Julius's niece, Martesha Cain. "We're just happy that the jury found her guilty and that we can go on with our lives, and that it's over. We don't have to keep coming down here, going through this."
Williams faces a mandatory 18 years to life in prison when she is sentenced next week.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
