Los Angeles County sheriff's homicide detectives have arrested a 45-year-old Corona man on suspicion of murder, after he allegedly shot and killed his ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend at a senior facility in Monterey Park.
Richard Vithya Tauch was taken into custody today around noon. He was booked for investigation of double murder and held in lieu of $1-million bail at the Monterey Park jail, said Lt. David Dolson.
Investigators believe Tauch shot Jenny Van Sor, 40, and Wen Chao, 53, shortly before 8 p.m. Tuesday at the senior housing complex in the 200 block of Chandler Avenue. The male victim’s father lives at the complex.
Detectives believe jealousy probably motivated the shooting.
"We don’t know the entire circumstances. But the suspect is the ex-boyfriend of the woman and the other victim is her new boyfriend," Dolson said. "We believe [the suspect] followed her into the place." Dolson said the suspect followed the female victim in through a glass patio door and sometime after shot the two victims.
Tauch, according to state licensing records, has a permit to carry a firearm while working as a security guard.

A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
