Burnett County (WQOW) - An area man is sentenced after authorities say he killed his girlfriend's dog.
On Thursday, Curtis Sutherland of Grantsburg was ordered to pay restitution for a disorderly conduct charge. He was also ordered to: pursue entry into the military, complete an anger management program and complete a psychological evaluation.
The criminal complaint says, in December 2008, a pure-bred miniature Schnauzer was found dead after spending time with Sutherland. Investigators say the animal died from blunt force trauma.
Sutherland claims the dog "collapsed" while he was giving it a bath. The owner filed for a restraining order against him.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
