Manheim Township man killed his wife and their 17-year-old son, then killed himself Sunday, Southwestern Regional Police said.
Gary Lee Bynaker, 57, shot his wife, Tammy Bynaker, 52, and their son, Benjamin Bynaker, inside their home in the 3100 block of Lily Springs Road, then shot himself, according to a news release.
All three died from single gunshot wounds, Detective Sgt. Lisa Layden said.
Police were called to the two-story home after a family member stopped by the house and became concerned when none of the Bynakers came to the door, the release states.
Police, the York County Forensics Team and the York County Coroner's Office determined the Bynakers died sometime between the morning and about 3 p.m., when police were dispatched.
According to the release, the Bynakers were having marital problems.
Benjamin Bynaker was a student at South Western High School, police said. He was a receiver on the school's football team, according to newspaper archives.
South Western School District is closed today because of Columbus Day. However, counselors will be available starting at 8:30 a.m. at the high school for students who need to talk, the release states.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
