A Sachse mother is suspected of shooting her son then killing herself as her estranged husband, accompanied by police, stood outside the door waiting to pick up the child, police said.
At about 11 a.m. Friday, Sachse police responded to the 7100 block of Longmeadow Drive at the request of the boy's father, who was in a custody dispute with his estranged wife, police said.
"While officers were outside they heard three shots from inside the house," according to a statement issued by Sachse police this afternoon.
"Officers forcibly entered the residence and found the 43-year-old female resident deceased along with her 7-year-old son. It appears that the female first shot the child and then took her own life."
No names have been released. The Collin County medical examiner's office is conducting autopsies and will make the official cause-of-death rulings.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
