Monroe, LA: Fleeing domestic violence suspect dies in 1-vehicle wreck

A domestic violence suspect fleeing Monroe Police died from injuries sustained in a one-vehicle crash about 2:35 a.m. this morning.

Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers investigated the wreck on Louisiana 15 in Ouachita Parish.

The investigation revealed that Monroe Police began to pursue a 1996 Infinity being driven by Willie L. Ross, 25, of Monroe).

State Police said in a news release Ross was traveling southbound on Louisiana 15 at a high rate of speed and refused to stop for police officers.

Ross lost control of the vehicle and ran off the right side of the road and entered a shallow ditch. The Infinity then overturned and began to flip end over end before coming to rest.

Ross was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle in the crash, the release said. He was pronounced dead by the Ouachita Parish Coroner’s Office.

In 2010, 58 percent of all drivers killed in car crashes were not wearing their seat belts, state police said.

In 2011, Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers have investigated 40 fatal crashes resulting in 45 deaths.
