HELENA -- A Helena man who was shot to death in his apartment on Thursday was denied a temporary restraining order last month and filed for divorce two days before his estranged wife was arrested on suspicion of killing him and another woman.
Joseph Andrew Gable, 48, sought a temporary order of protection from Michelle Coller Gable on Sept. 20, alleging she was stalking him.
He said Michelle Gable, 48, had entered his apartment while he was trying to change the locks and started a confrontation. He said she threw a laptop computer down the stairs, tried to block him from leaving the apartment and prevented him from driving away because her rental car was parked behind his vehicle.
"She jumped out of her rental car and came at me to continue the confrontation. I ran back into the house and locked the door," Joseph Gable wrote in court documents.
"She has been out of Montana on the East Coast in Maryland for over two years, came back unannounced and is trying to disrupt my life anyway she can, apparently," he wrote.
District Judge Dorothy McCarter denied the request, writing: "No personal danger or threat involved."
Joseph Gable filed for divorce Tuesday, listing his wife's address as Clinton, Md.
Michelle Gable faces two counts deliberate homicide in the death of her husband and his female acquaintance after the shooting at his apartment Thursday morning. She was scheduled to make an initial court appearance Friday afternoon.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
