ELBERTA, Alabama -- A south Baldwin County man apparently killed himself today after attempting to kill his wife, the Sheriff's Office said in a news release.
Elberta Police were called to a home in the 24000 block of Daw Road at 9:30 this morning for a report of a woman having been stabbed. Upon arrival, the wife, 45-year-old Evelyn Polk, was found at a neighbor’s home, suffering stab wounds to the chest and back. She was airlifted to a local hospital.
Officers then entered the woman’s home, where her husband, Eddie Polk, was found in a bedroom, dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot. A small-caliber weapon was found near the body, the Sheriff’s Office said.
The case is being investigated by the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office, but a preliminary examination of the evidence leads investigators to believe Polk killed himself after attempting to kill his wife.
The Evelyn Polk was listed in good condition this afternoon, the news release said.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
