The estranged husband of a Bellingham, Wash., woman found fatally shot in her apartment has been arrested. Police allege Keayn T. Dunya admitted burning evidence that could have linked his girlfriend to the killing.
Booked into jail Monday evening for investigation of rendering criminal assistance, Dunya appeared in court Tuesday and was ordered held on $1 million bail. It was not known late Tuesday whether he had a lawyer.
In court, Whatcom County Prosecutor David McEachran said surveillance video appears to show Dunya outside the victim's apartment building on the day she is believed to have died.
The Bellingham Herald says Dunya was in a relationship with Kara Jo Buchanan, who has been arrested for investigation of first-degree murder in the death of Kriston Peterman-Dunya. The victim was found dead July 5 from a shotgun wound.
Lt. Rick Sucee has said a custody battle over the Dunyas' 7-year-old son may have motivated the killing.

A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
