An Augusta County woman is charged with murdering her husband, Clarence Washington of Waynesboro. Officials are now saying Washington died from multiple gunshots.
Debra Washington, 47, turned herself into police Friday afternoon. Her son had called police earlier that day to say that his mother told him that she killed her husband.
Investigators later searched for Clarence Washington and found his body on Coal Road in Sherando late Friday night.
Neighbors of the couple are saying they had no idea this happened, and they're shocked by the murder.
"It's a very quiet neighborhood and it is kind of shocking that this would happen like right next door," said neighbor Chris Cash.
"I can't believe it you know, especially considering that they're my next door neighbors," said Stacy Kennedy. "Would never imagine, you know, Waynesboro, Virginia that you know this would happen so close."
Augusta County Officials are still investigating the motive of the crime and they have not been able to get concrete information from Debra Washington.
"She was upset, but would give certain information and not other information and then she decided she didn't want to talk," said Augusta County Lieutenant A.C. Powers.
"Justice will be served one way or another," said Kennedy.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
