A convicted killer remains in the hospital with a gunshot wound after being charged in the shooting death of his girlfriend last week.
Ervin Jones, 38, is charged with murder, accused of shooting 22-year-old Robyn Hightower in her southwest Houston home about 10 p.m. Wednesday.
Police said the couple were arguing while several people were in another part of the home in the 15000 block of Clarke Springs.
Witnesses told investigators they heard two gunshots. Jones, who was wounded, fled to a nearby convenience store and later went to the hospital, police said.
Hightower was taken to Ben Taub General Hospital where she died.
Jones was sentenced to 90 days in jail in 2007 after pleading guilty to two counts of assault of a family member, stemming from two incidents that involved separate women, court records show.
In 2003, he pleaded guilty to murder in exchange for time served in the shooting death of Willie James Hamilton on June 30, 1989.
Witnesses said Jones, then 17, shot Hamilton in the back after the two men had been arguing, according to court records.
