BAY SHORE, N.Y. — Police on Long Island say a man fatally shot his ex-girlfriend and then turned the gun on himself during a dispute over visitation rights.
They say a 12-year-old boy, a 5-year-old girl and a 3-month-old girl were in the Bay Shore apartment at the time but were not injured.
Police say 27-year-old Jason Jenkins entered the apartment at 1 a.m. Tuesday with a shotgun and got into a dispute with Sanita Williams over visitation rights involving the infant. Police say they were the child's parents.
Williams lived in the apartment with her sister, who police say jumped from a window during the shooting, breaking her leg.
It wasn't immediately clear if the two older children belonged to the 26-year-old Williams or her sister.

(NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
