Carol Robinson -- The Birmingham News
Authorities have identified a man arrested in the death of his wife this morning as 41-year-old Anthony Dewayne Johnson.
His wife's body was discovered in their Palmerdale home after her husband walked into the Birmingham Police Department headquarters and told them he'd killed his wife, authorities said.
Johnson went to the downtown police station on First Avenue North just after 2 a.m. and gave authorities his address.
Birmingham police notified Jefferson County sheriff's deputies, who went to the home on Stonebriar Trace but could not get an answer at the door, said Chief Deputy Randy Christian.
Fire and rescue workers forced entry and found 39-year-old Sherry Young Johnson dead in her bed in the back bedroom, stabbed multiple times.
Authorities learned the husband had dropped the couple's three children off at his mother's house en route to the police station. He told the children their mother was sick, Christian said.
An investigation is under way.
Johnson is being held without bond in the county jail.

(NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
