A Harlem man killed his on-again, off-again girlfriend by stabbing her with a knife and bashing her with a hammer, police said Friday.
Ex-con Anthony Kelly, 46, was found standing in pools of blood in his W. 138th St. apartment with Alberta Engram bleeding nearby on the floor when cops broke into the apartment after getting a 911 call on Thursday evening.
Engram, 48, was barely conscious but able to tell officers that Kelly was her attacker, police said.
She died hours later at Harlem Hospital.
A neighbor heard screaming in Kelly's third-floor apartment at 5:30 p.m. and called 911, police said.
Kelly, who has an extensive criminal record including convictions for robbery and selling drugs, tried to run from cops but was stopped in the hallway.
He was charged with murder, resisting arrest and criminal possession of a weapon, police said.
A bloody knife and hammer were found at the grisly murder scene, police said.
It was not immediately clear what led to the killing, police said.

We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
