SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) - A state Supreme Court jury finds a 36-year-old Syracuse woman guilty of manslaughter in the fatal stabbing of her boyfriend last year.
The jury acquitted Olive Stoutenger of the more serious charge of second-degree murder in the death of Edward Hardter. The panel reached a verdict Tuesday afternoon after deliberating since Friday.
Stoutenger was accused of intentionally killing Hardter by stabbing him in the chest in October 2009. A conviction on a second-degree murder charge would have carried a maximum penalty of 25 years to life in prison. The manslaughter conviction carries a maximum penalty of 25 years in prison.
Sentencing is on Jan. 10.

(NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
